Volunteers are Our Greatest Resource
The St. Albert Botanic Park has flourished because people have given their time and talents to build a beautiful botanic garden in this city. It is meaningful work with a wonderful outcome. It is a great place to meet people, make new friends, share talents, and learn.
There are member volunteers of all ages with a wide range of interests: gardening, photography, carpentry, construction, horticulture, farming, fundraising, administration, selling, food preparation, education, non-profit governance, communication, and so many more! If you are interested in helping out, no matter what your skills and interests are, we have a place for you. As an active member volunteer, you are eligible for member benefits based on the number of recorded volunteer hours you contribute to the operation and governance of the Society and the Park. Volunteer member benefits include but are not limited to:
-
- Discounts on the rental of the John Beedle Centre, or spaces in the Park for weddings, photography etc.
- Growing your own vegetables in the trial garden
- Purchasing perennial plants and roses at a discounted price
Specific details about the volunteers hours required for individual benefits are available on request. Annual membership fees are $15 for an individual, $20 for a couple, and $25 for a family.
The great thing about being a volunteer in our Park is meeting wonderful people who are passionate about designing, maintaining and promoting a living jewel in the heart of our community. Last year volunteers contributed over 13,000 hours of their time! The sense of accomplishment and satisfaction that comes from creating and enjoying a beautiful space is indescribable!
If you are only available on evenings or weekends, our volunteer coordinator can help you become acquainted with the Park and find an area where you feel comfortable working. Most volunteers at the Park come when they can – once a week, once a month – any time given is greatly appreciated.
From Spring through the Fall, work parties are held every Tuesday and Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. Coffee is held on the Gift Shop patio at 10:30 am. Drop in to see what is happening and where you might be able to help!
We welcome volunteers that are non-members as we also have members that do not volunteer. We appreciate both kinds of support as the Park could not continue to thrive without the backing of our amazing community members! We look forward to having you join us.
Please feel free to contact the Park for more information on how you can help us continue to grow.
