The St. Albert Botanic Park parking lot will be temporarily closed on June 1, 2026 and construction barriers will be going up at the entrance.
Visitors should plan for alternate parking.
Why is our parking lot under construction?
Our parking lot is getting a much-needed upgrade! Paving the parking lot will mean better accessibility for our visitors, especially those with limited mobility. It will also widen our lot and allow for better traffic flow, bus turn-arounds, and garbage collection, and will eliminate the mud on rainy days. We thank you for your patience during this temporary closure. Construction is expected to last for 10-12 weeks (i.e., into August).
We’re open! Park Operations During Construction
- The Park will remain open throughout construction. It is important to follow all signage and safety barriers.
- Our gardens will be blooming and accessible for all visitors – there are several pedestrian access points along Red Willow Trail – see below.
- The Gift Shop, plant sales, patio, and washrooms will remain open, and wayfinding signage will be updated as access points change.
- The sidewalk from the water feature to the patio area will be open with occasional temporary closure.
Additional parking is available at:
- The SAMBA ball diamonds located just beyond the West end of the Botanic Park. During weekends and ball tournaments parking will be very limited.
- Kingswood Park just east of the Botanic Park
- Woodlands community and Kinosayo elementary school and Neil M Ross Elementary school parking lots (on weekends, and on weekdays after June 30). Please be mindful of all traffic signage, of not blocking residential driveways, etc.
- Note: Parking at Sturgeon Valley Baptist church is not advised. This lot is private, and used for events and services at the church. Unauthorized vehicles may be subject to ticketing or towing.

Bus lay-by drop off zone to temporary walkway.
Temporary walkway to the Rose Garden We encourage our visitors to bike, walk, and use ride-share options wherever possible during this time. Bikes can be locked onto Park fencing, or smaller trees around our pedestrian entrances.
Drop-Offs & Access
- A temporary pedestrian access point has been constructed through the fence near the bus lay-by on the north side of Sturgeon road, to the west of the main Park entrance. Vehicles may drop people off in this lay-by so they can walk into the Park. This is a drop off zone only – please do not park here.
- There are also several pedestrian access points to the park through gates off of Red Willow Trail and the sidewalk along Sturgeon road.
Please see the attached maps for parking and temporary access routes.
