The St. Albert Botanic Park parking lot will be temporarily closed on June 1, 2026 and construction barriers will be going up around the main parking lot. Visitors should plan for alternate parking.

Why is our parking lot under construction?

Our parking lot is getting a much-needed upgrade! Paving the parking lot will mean better accessibility for our visitors, especially those with limited mobility. It will also widen our lot and allow for better traffic flow, bus turn-arounds, and garbage collection, and will eliminate the mud on rainy days. We thank you for your patience during this temporary closure.

We’re open! Park Operations During Construction

  • The Park will remain open throughout construction. It is important to follow all signage and safety barriers.
  • Our gardens will be blooming and accessible for all visitors – there are several pedestrian access points along Red Willow Trail – see below.
  • The Gift Shop, plant sales, patio, and washrooms will remain open, and wayfinding signage will be updated as access points change.
  • The sidewalk from the water feature to the patio area will be open with occasional temporary closure.
  • Construction is expected to last for 10-12 weeks (i.e., into August).

Additional parking is available at:

Drop-Offs & Access

  • A temporary pedestrian access point will be constructed through the fence near the bus lay-by on the north side of Sturgeon road, to the west of the main entrance. Vehicles may drop people off in this lay-by so they can walk into the Park.  This is not a location to park, it is drop off zone only.
  • There are also several pedestrian access points to the park through gates off of Red Willow Trail and the sidewalk along Sturgeon road.

Please see the attached maps for parking and temporary access routes.
